CONSTRUCTION WORKERS are being urged to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as possible.

The BC Building Trades supports the Faster, Together campaign, which is promoting acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine in order to help speed up pandemic recovery efforts. BCBT is among more than 200 businesses, non-profit organizations, labour groups and post-secondary institutions across Canada that have signed on to the campaign.

“Construction workers perform vital work, from maintaining and building infrastructure to building schools, hospitals and homes,” said Brynn Bourke, the BCBT’s interim executive director. “We want to ensure they all get their vaccines so they can protect themselves and their families as we begin our economic recovery from COVID-19.”

As of June 14, 75.9 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 74.1 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, the cumulative percent of Canadians who have received at least one dose of the vaccine was 61.34 per cent as of June 5; more women than men have been vaccinated.
