Starting an Apprenticeship

We're the first to admit that 'trades' and 'apprenticeships' are terms that go back hundreds and hundreds of years — but they're both terms that are now more about looking forward than back.

For example, many people think of trades as being more about 'back work' than 'brain work', but nothing could be further from the truth. No matter what building-related trade you select, you're going to be using your brains as much or more than your braun. Trades today are about tackling a problem and using your skills and expertise to solve it — and that may require good math, computer, physics skills, and more.

Apprenticeships get your career started

As for apprenticeships, they are your ticket to a good future. They combine the best of all worlds — you receive a perfect mix of classroom and on-the-job training, where you're learning from journeyman who've been around for awhile and know what it takes to get the job done. And you earn while you learn.

Here are some fast facts about apprenticeships:

  • We have almost 6,000 people in our training and apprenticeship programs
  • We invest more than $18 million annually in apprenticeship training
  • More than 85 per cent of our apprentices graduate
  • We have over $44 million in capital assets for training
